Kim Sajet, the first woman to serve as the Director of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, will join us in January. Sajet is responsible for a collection of 23,000 objects at the Smithsonian Gallery, including the famous ‘cracked plate’ photograph of Lincoln taken shortly before his death, the permanent “America’s Presidents” exhibition and the recently unveiled Obama portraits, which have had a profound impact on museum attendance from around the world.  The Gallery is participating in the recently launched Smithsonian American Women’s Initiative “Because of Her Story” which will deepen our understanding of women’s contributions to the nation and the world.
